Based on a concept album written more than 40 years ago by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, “Jesus Christ Superstar” tells the story of the final seven days in the life of Jesus Christ through the troubled eyes of Judas Iscariot. The show is a musical theater staple, and features memorable songs such as “I Don’t Know How to Love Him,” “Everything’s Alright” and “Hosanna.”
Moorhead High’s production is directed by Rebecca Meyer-Larson. “I am excited to bring this classic-rock opera to the Moorhead High stage and thrilled to present with a modern political edge,” Meyer-Larson said. “The electrifying score has energized rehearsals and the culturally significant story has provided rich educational opportunities for our artists.”
Moorhead High’s production of “Jesus Christ Superstar” is set in the paparazzi fueled ‘90s and features a 25-person pit orchestra. More than 120 young artists are involved in bringing the production to the stage.
Moorhead High School’s musical theater department has been awarded the Hennepin Theatre Trust’s Spotlight Musical Theater Award for Production Excellence in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013.
