Two Moorhead Destination Imagination teams advance to Global Finals

Two Moorhead Destination Imagination teams took top honors in the State Destination Imagination Tournament on April 20 in Champlin Park, Minn.

The DI Vinci’s, a ninth-grade Moorhead High team, placed first in Challenge B Wind Visible and received a Rennaisance award for Outstanding Design. The team had to research wind energy and incorporate it into an eight-minute presentation in which an “Invisible Visitor” sets something in motion. The team also had to create a piece of kinetic art that used wind energy to initiate and sustain motion for 15 seconds. The same team took third place in Improv, Challenge D Change in Realitee.

The Yards for Youth team of seventh-, eighth- and ninth-grade Horizon Middle School and Moorhead High students took first in ProjectOutreach. The team members addressed a community need with their Yards For Youth sew-a-thon in which they sewed (with the help of volunteers) and donated 325 pillowcases to Sanford Children’s Hospital. The team had to make a movie on its project and incorporate a press conference into an eight-minute presentation.

Both teams will compete against teams from around the world at Global Finals on May 22-25.
