Horizon Middle School Presents “The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer”

A beloved character in American literature comes to life in the jubilant musical “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer,” presented by Horizon Middle School theater. Performances of this Broadway musical version of Mark Twain’s semi-autobiographical novel will be Feb. 28, March 1 and March 2 at 7 p.m. and March 3 at 2 p.m. at the Moorhead High School auditorium. The Feb. 28 performance will be sign language interpreted.

This lively tale is set in 1840 in St. Petersburg, Missouri, a bustling town on the banks of the Mississippi River. Thirteen-year-old Tom navigates the trials of teen life as he goes head-to-head with his Aunt Polly, falls in love with the pretty, spirited Becky Thatcher, and embarks on a grand adventure with Becky and the irresistible Huckleberry Finn. Along the way, Tom meets a terrifying man named Injun Joe and interacts with a host of colorful townspeople.

Based on the book by Ken Ludwig, with music and lyrics by songwriter Don Schlitz, this family show is filled with foot-stomping, toe-tapping songs that will introduce a whole new generation to Twain’s memorable characters.

Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students. Tickets go on sale Feb. 19. Call 218-284-2345 to purchase tickets or purchase tickets at the door.
