ELL teacher named Horizon Teacher of the Year

Thursday, March 29th, 2012

Sayra Crary’s philosophy is to believe in the “power of positive.”

“I choose to be proactive in my approach to education and life in general,” said Crary, an English Language Learners teacher at Horizon Middle School. “I remember hearing a speaker say that for every negative comment a person hears, they need between five and six positive comments to bring back the balance of self-esteem. That has stuck with me and has helped me to remember to focus on the positive.”

Crary, who has taught at Horizon since 2007, was named this year’s Horizon Teacher of the Year.
