Speaker From Haiti Tells Students To Dream Big

“It does not cost anything to dream, so if you are dreaming, dream big,” Caleb Lucien told students at Horizon Middle School during presentations in November.

Lucien, who grew up in the village of Pignon in Haiti, spoke to seventh and eighth graders during two presentations at Horizon Middle School and to student representatives from the Moorhead Schools at a luncheon presentation.

Scott Peterson, a teacher at Horizon Middle School who visited Haiti last school year, arranged Lucien’s visit to the area. Peterson was part of a mission team from Moorhead’s Trinity Lutheran Church that was in Pignon when the January 2010 earthquake hit Port-au-Prince.

After the earthquake, Horizon students worked to raise $1 for every mile it is from Moorhead to Haiti (2,183 miles). The students raised about $2,500, Peterson said. Students at other Moorhead Schools also raised funds for Haiti relief efforts.

“I want to thank each of you for the nice job you have done in supporting the people of Haiti,” Lucien told the students.
