School Board calls special election to ask voters to approve an operating levy referendum

Friday, September 18th, 2009

Moorhead School District voters will have an opportunity to vote Nov. 3, 2009, on an operating levy referendum that, if approved, will provide the school district $850 per pupil in additional funds each year for the next seven years. At the Aug. 24 School Board meeting, the Moorhead School Board unanimously approved calling a special election. The owner of a home valued at $100,000 would see a tax impact of approximately $15 per month with voter approval of the levy.

Welcome to SuperSpud

This is my first blog written for readers in our community. In researching the blogs of other superintendents in our state, I found many of them had catchy names. As I thought about our district and community the name SuperSpud came to mind.

No, I don’t wear a cape, leap tall buildings or run faster than a speeding bullet. However I am the superintendent for Moorhead Area Public Schools — the home of the Moorhead Spuds. So it seems appropriate to call this blog SuperSpud.

As a person who likes to learn, one of my goals is to learn to use technology to reach a wider audience. Our district will continue to use communication methods we have had in the past, but we are also looking to add other ways to communicate with our community.

This blog offers an opportunity for two-way communication with community members. I plan to provide news and information about the school community, and I hope others will ask questions or provide comments regarding our school district.
